Not as easy as you thought lol
Hi

I need help to fit a five-arm B & Q Albany chrome plated ceiling light in my bedroom, I have 4 blue wires, 4 brown wires and 1 yellow wire on this light and from the ceiling I have 1 yellow wire and 2 black wires. I have put the 4 blue wires together and the 4 brown wires together and put each set of wires into one hole each of the 4 hole connector and the 1 yellow wire into one other hole on the connector that came with the ceiling light. I them put the yellow wire from the ceiling into the 4 hole connector opposite the yellow wire in the light fitting and 1 black wire from ceiling into connector opposite the set of blue wires and the other black wire opposite the set of brown wires but the light is not working, I even swapped the black wires over but still nothing.
I had to put the old ceiling rose back because my hall, kitchen and living room ceiling lights would not work but now I have put the old ceiling rose back the bedroom light won't work but I have the hall, kitchen and living room ceiling lights are working. Could someone advise me, is something wrong with the wires from the ceiling or is something wrong with the wall switch in the bedroom. I would be very grateful for any help as soon as possible. Thank you.

You're going to struggle to repair this without test equipment and a good knowledge of lighting circuits. The problem you have is probably somewhere else on the circuit in one of the other ceiling roses you've been inside and it would probably be better to get an electrician to help you before you make the problem more complicated with your trial and error approach.

It's important with lighting circuits that you assume you can get a shock from any colour wire, even the ones you might think are neutrals. If you insist on proceeding yourself I would warn you to exercise extreme caution and never work on the circuit unless the fuse is removed or the circuit breaker is off. You also need to prove dead at the wiring by using a tester before you start.

Mind you I prefer them coming on here than calling you up.. I have bought a light and having trouble putting it up can you help.. Yes sure what is your address? address can you not tell me ove the phone.. I have 4 red wires and 2 black.. Where do they go???? a right yeah for sure.. lol

I thought this was an electrician's forum, perhaps I'm wrong, is this also for DIY ers??????

Sorry I thought this was to help DIYers, won't bother you again. I am not that stupid to work on electrics without switching the electricity off first. I have now got the light working. SO THANKS FOR ALL YOUR RUDE COMMENTS AND THANKS FOR NOTHING.

Unfortunately the problem lies with yourself, no disrespect but every electrician loves a tryer; it looks easy but it isn't. You need a electrician to correct the problems.
