If anybody can tell me what needs to be done would really appreciate it. I know you need to do 3 jobs for your log book, just don't know what you need to do for log book?? Help please.

Cheers,

John

Well the od grey matter aint what it used to be but.....

From what I remember on mine there were 3 different jobs spaced apart by a certain number of months and covering various different types of wiring methods, different types of enclosures and containment, different types of access equipment and different scenario's i.e, domestic, commercial, industrial etc.

In addition to writing up these jobs you also needed evidence to support your statements i.e plans/drawings, manufacturers literature, and any other associated documents. There were also set questions we had to answer I think these were called Knowledge Evidence questions (K.E's) usually 5 or 6 per unit.

There were also Performance Objectives (P.O's) that needed to be fulfilled, these were ticked off by my tutor as we went along.

For NVQ 3 there were I think 8 different units.......

  1. Ensure safe electrical site working
  2. Prepare to install electrical wiring systems, wiring enclosures and equipment
  3. Install electric wiring systems, wiring enclosures and equipment
  4. Connect wiring systems and equipment using safe and approved methods
  5. Inspect, test and commission an electrical installation
  6. Diagnose and correct electrical faults
  7. Provide technical and functional information to relevant people
  8. Maintain a healthy and safe working environment
Hope this helps a bit.

24 units. 3 lots of 8, ie 301, 302, 303, 304, 305, 306, 307, 308.
sometimes on a job you could get say 5 or 6 units off one job . for instance if you had a job that need you to trace a fault and rectify you would get the fault finding the installing, working safely, providing functional information ie telling the customer how an rcbo works . on a domestic rewire you could pull quite a few units into it.

in the same boat mate, just started nvq (wish i done it b4 when i should of) anyways as stated there are 8 uunits 301-308 however ive been told they only need to be covered twice not 3 times.

Ive completed all questions for po & ko for all 8 units, had site visit and now just need to to sort through evidence photos, statements etc, bit of a pain.

Im doing a full rewire at min and assessor says most info i need can come from this one job, hope so cause start next rewire in a couple weeks so that will be me done.

just check with him for time scales it used to be a minimum of three months before you could claim the award mate so you may need to adjust the dates accordingly. our students do the full 8 units three times so three or more jobs will cover it. try using quickstep now that is a pain, every bit of evidence you have in the log book needs to be uploaded to quickstep aswell, different assessors have different ways of doing the award, just a matter of ticking all the boxes.

Yeah mate using quickstep, done the questions just adding the photos but assessor said just put them on a disk and send them in so saves me messing on.

on average how many photos need to be sent per unit?

Youre right its a min 3 month turn around but its def only 2 sets of jobs and no need for am2 ( but im an adult and been working in trade long enough so think that counts)

I just want to send everything to him for both sets then i know my part is done and he can just submit in 3 months etc.

But thnx go to you and durhamspark for the help appreciated :)

Cheers for the replys. So if you do the log book you dont need to do the AM2? Has anyone got any examples they can send me, or a page so I know how to format it?

Cheers.

am2 depends on your age. for my jib grading i didn`t need the am2 as i am in my 30`s (shush don`t tell everyone) and i had site experience. if you are on an apprenticeship it`s different.

dont be too sure on the am2 i think every assessor may have a diff view best to check.
Im qualified withh 2330 2382 2391 2377 registered under part p scam and have evidence from previous employers of electrical work so think thats why im covered although not 100% sure.

my log book work is all internet based to complete so theres nothing i can send you but once i have a full unit completed and marked i should be able to give some help.

i accept two pics, you need to be in your full ppe when posing for them though, or you get the iv asking questions like, why no dust mask or hi- vis etc, we all know when in a domestic house the vest is not on but like the driving test we all have to show everything is done the correct way. post office tuesday morning mate so you should have a package very soon
