Hi, i was an electrician mate/improver for about 12 years and during this time I completed the (old) City & Guilds 2360 pt's 1 & 2. I never got round to doing my NVQ3. Now (after 6 years out of the trade) I want to complete it; from what im reading online, the NVQ3 may be scrapped soon, is this right ?

Is there any way I can complete my NVQ 3 portfolio (if it's still running) at a centre or college somewhere (on a bit of plyboard) or is it still completed through site based work and visits.

Thanks in advance for any answers

Apparently, by the end of the year you will no longer be able to complete your NVQ. I completed mine around 2 years ago. At the time the NVQ would only be available for approx 6 months but because of the amount of interest they extended the amount of time to complete. If you want my advice get online and book the NVQ tomorrow. Make sure you get loads of photographic evidence of you performing electrical tasks, then prepare to to document 3 jobs in every detail from day one to completion. Hard work but worth it if you want to finish your qualification.

Last registration date for the 2357 is 31 July 2015 with last certification date being 31 July 2018

If you are already enrolled on the 2356 then you have until December 2015 for the last certification date, the last enrolment was 2012.

There will be a new NVQ3 course to replace the 2357 which C&G will release details of when they are ready.

Thanks for the response; so if I enrol on the 2357 before 31 July 2015, I will have 3 years to complete it, is that right?

You will have 3 years until the last certificate date, that means you will have to allow time for marking, moderation and any possible appeals and corrections etc before the July 2018.

Best thing to do is discuss it with your training provider.
