I had the pleasure of having the new company apprentice working with me at the weekend, he has come from a company that had him working minimum off 14 hour days earning ÂŁ4.00 an hour with no overtime rate. He was told by his boss that he had to work weekends and if he wanted a weekend off he had to book holidays. He was also conned into buying some tools off an Electrician he was working with for ÂŁ200 and not one of the tools is insulated, in fact they look like a children's tool kit. The poor lad didn't have a clue, I gave him a few of my spare tools and told him to have a look at the C.K. tool kits they do online to get him started. I can't believe people are still treating apprentices like this and getting away with it, my apprenticeship was brilliant, I was very well looked after by old school sparks and shown how to do a proper job and take pride in what I was doing. Hopefully it's not put him off from carrying on with his apprenticeship and becoming a fully fledged spark.

that sounds awful, my boss is a pain in the arse tbh. wants us to work every weekend, he has told me quite a few times, no excuses you are working tge weekend.

i just stayed in bed and he was lucky i answered his call in the morning lol, he doesnt press things like that anymore, i wont lie but i will make a point.

ive got an unwritten rule, unless its an emergency if im not told for definate about work on the weekend im not coming in

Good on you for helping the lad,
Unbelievable that these people are short sighted enough to only see them as cheap labour!
Instead of a potentially skilled worker who will earn them more long term!
I worked for a firm when i started out and several others since with similar attitudes of don't teach them too much because they'll leave at the end of their time,
Well if their treated badly and low paid what else can they expect. ....
On the other hand a bit of trust and time invested to the right persons can go a very long way! !!
Some people are just not cut out to run a business! Unfortunately they sometimes seem to be the majority these days!
