Called to look at a job for a young couple who had just bought a semi. They were told that the old fuse board may need replaceing so to call a spark etc. The house has had a full P.I.R within the last 12 months with no faults found apart from no RCD protection. So i informed them that the installation is not upto current standards but is not damgerouse as is. They intend on re-newing the C.U to a 17th board later on when money allows. I cant work out why the guy told them to call somone in when he has good recent paperwork that shows the install in good order?

Would you insist swapping it when there is no real danger from the current install?

i would advise replacing it as and when they are going to do some redecoration. probably they'll want some extra sockets, maybe wall lights or downlights, all work best done just before decorating.

there is no reason to change it just because it's not compliant with current regs. i would however stress sooner rathewr than later if it's a wooden based CU,

Of course not, just advise them of the benefits of modern equipment. It's up to them.

My words were pretty much that. I did say when you have some spare cash to do it but its not somthing that needs to be done tomorrow etc.

Cheers fella's for your time.

btw sorry for my bad spelling lol, sat night and a can or 2 and this is what you get :D

Some 1 who does'nt know that code 4 means, Its not upto current standard.
It does nt mean its dangerous.
Maybe he was trying to drum work up some how? Or a idiot

The guy who carried out the P.I.R didnt issue a code 4 or any code for that matter. Just added a note of No RCD protection. think the surveyor was just covering his behind etc.
