Hi All. I was doing a course last week over here in the Emerald Isle and was informed that later this year we are changing 2.5 cable. The earth will now also be 2.5 and will be sleeved. Is it coming in across the pond?

Should help with impedance values I suppose...

Yeah read it after I posted. Would like to know the reasoning behind it. Only familiar with our regs so maybe the ROI change is akin to some other parts of the world. Would be quite happy to see the CPC insulated, not convinced on the need for a bigger CSA, on a conductor that is often in very infrequent use, for want of a better term.

Don't know the reasoning behind it and it doesn't affect me with what I'm at. More expensive and a job getting it in a conduit I'd imagine.

Must be some valid reason I suppose. Will cut down on the maths when filling out a cert.

Australian T+E is already like this, might have been for a long time. European NYM and similar is round not flat but has insulated earth of equal CSA. American NM uses equal CSA earth but bare like ours. I don't know of any variants with reduced insulated earth though.

It isn't required by ET101 until 5th September 2017.

(EDIT: I forgot to add that this isn't just for 2.5mm^2 - all T&E is to be replaced.)

Must be a nightmare for you having to work to 2 standards.

LOL. Not usually too bad, although you have to be careful not to miss something costly out! Occasionally you might think of doing something a certain way and then realise before it's too late that your approach is prohibited by that Standard (but not the other)!
