Hey guys. Just interested in your opinions on this one before I speak to my NIC field engineer. I have a customer who wants a new ccu installed but his property is rather old and he has the classic 2 core twin lighting arrangement so no earths whatsoever on the lighting.

I did the initial pir and informed the customer of the situation and that it didn't meet regs and would be deemed unsatisfactory but he insists he wants a new ccu fitting but without further remedial works i.e. the installation of cpc for the lighting.

Because I've not come across this particular situation before I'm not sure exactly where I stand. Ordinarily when I do works I bring absolutely everything up to current code as a matter of course, but here this isn't possible. I know I can't force anyone to have the issue corrected but should I replace the ccu for him knowing that the circuit isn't fit for purpose? I'm not making it any worse I guess....

Ideas?

you can replace the CU, make sure all lighting fittings and switches are class 2. note on your EICand label CU something like " no cpc on lighting. only class 2 fittings to be used . you will probably find thet the lugs in the switches are nylon to prevent the pins becoming live in the event of a fault.

Many thanks telectrix I was hoping that may well be the case. I'm quite new to NIC stuff so I'm still learning what I am and am not allowed to do. Mind you from the last meeting I had with my NIC guy it seems I can do absolutely anything so long as I note it on the paperwork! :)
