I'm fitting a new circuit for a kiln in an outbuilding and have a few questions to ask of experienced heads:

The outbuilding is part of the nursery (they grow and sell plants) and is therefore a commercial premises, with presumably a different supply etc from the house, which is next door (I haven't checked this yet, and I'm not ruling anything out as I know they like to 'have a go' at stuff).

Basically I want to know if I am able to do the work, as I am only qualified as a domestic installer, and this is technically commercial, even though the equipment will be used for a hobby only. I looked at the pdf Lenny posted of notifiable work, and new circuits in remote buildings are notifiable, which is fine. But are there any other hoops I have to jump through in order to do the job?

Thanks for looking.

Ahab

The only restriction a domestic installer has with commercial or industrial installation or doing pirs is the qualification to use niceic paperwork for that sector, which they are not assessed for

Other than that electrical work in all these sectors have no restriction to anybody trained or otherwise doing the work
Showing competence in a legal only issue, arising out of that work is another matter

Yeah so best thing really just use non branded test sheets ie ones out the regs, just make sure your upto the job and have relevant tester

edit: good point Ian but if its metered seperatly than all is good but yeah might have probs if its traced back to the house supply, my mum has a kiln in her out building which I have yet to set up got some 6mm swa that I'm going to bury in the garden
