Evening all, got quite a few periodics to carry out on domestic properties, fully familiar with the old codes 1-4 but bit unsure bout the newer ones. I mean with regards to the most common faults like

borrowed neutral (lighting
open circuit ( ring final circuit)
no rcd protection throughout
no main earth or cpc to a circuit
cracked accesory (not exposed to get a shock off)
main bonds 6mm instead of 10mm
no main bond at all
overated mcb/fuse for cable size

according to the latest ammendment code 4 items (in old money) arent recorded anymore

So any help to these code items in new money would be greatly apprecieated folks..................................................

Code 4 items can be recorded as code 3 now if you deem a non-compliance with the 17th to be worthy of note, such as no RCD for bathroom circuits, socket outlets etc.

C1 Danger exists. C2 Risk of danger. C3 improvement advised, such as minor but not dangerous non compliances i.e blue used as a line conductor but not sleeved brown. Or the installation is sound in all respects but does not meet current regulations, i.e No RCD protection if it was pre 16th edition. Remember with C3 you are informing the client that his/her installation could be made safer, but it isn't dangerous.

You are the man on the ground, and it is up to you to put your professional opinion on what you see, and code it accordingly.

Cheers.............Howard
