Hi All!
Could do with some advise please...

I need to replace my old 4 way Wylex fuse board (BS 3036 rewireable fuses), now I don’t have much room so I need a small unit to run 1 x Ring (sockets 32A), 1 x lights (6A), 1 x shower (20A) 1 x cooker (32A) and I am looking at adding power to my brick shed, so I would need one more 16A MCB (Only to run one socket and light with one outside light, will be adding a garage CU withh 1x 6A for lights, 1x16A for 1 double socket, and the incoming switch as a RCD (one of these) in the shed).

It is a TNS installation. So to keep in with regs DO I NEED to install a split board (for 17th Edition) or can I install a 8 way Wylex CU and change the 100A main switch for a 80A/100A 2 pole Main RCD as the main switch as I am upgrading/altering an existing installation.
The property is only a small terraced cottage 1x Bedroom, 1x Bathroom, 1x Kitchen, 1x lounge, 1x basement.

My plan is to use this towards my Part P registration so I want to make sure that what I am proposing to do will be ok. :D What else would I need for the assesment...

The shed will be a complete new circuit so will need to do a separate EIC for that and one for the consumer unit but any advise, suggestions etc. much appreciated.

Cheers guys

Definetly a split 17th board for me mate, and when you wire it make sure the lighting circuit is on 1x rcd, and the shower on the other, for obvious reasons.

I would consider a C.U with 100A main switch and individual RCBO's for each circuit in this instance.

make sure you get local authority building control LABC round before you start cause you have to have them ok it before and after. i didnt and they wouldent have it. all parts of the install can go on one EIC

All's good this end mate.

Granted the RCBO route is more expensive but a 6way board is a lot smaller than a 5+5 split load one if space is an issue in this scenario.

aaahh the dreaded space no rm issue, its probably one behind front door little cupboard.

No its in a Kitchen cupboard and i dont want to have to rip the kitchen apart if I can help it... If I have no choice then ill have to dig out the chisels lol

Whats the smallest split board you can get? is it 5+5. I guess I would need one with two RCD's and a main switch?

This has confused me.. why do I need to involve local authority building control when I plan use this for Part P registration? am I missing something?

I would approach EATON MEM they configure CU's to your spec(fully loaded with MCB/RCBO's) ,and offer a really good price even if quantity is 1

its been said by others here before, not consistantly but often registered bodies insist upon having labc cert. also the labc i spoke to said i would have to get an independant registered sparks to do a pir for me. not the point. hope thats a little clearer

Moeller fuse boards very cheap, RCBO's from £8, also individual RCBO's are excellent for limited nuicance tripping and will only trip that one circuit unlike your split db's.
