New Extension

Building two storey extension on side of my house. ive dug and put in the footings and now need to disconect the power and lighting to the exsisting ground floor extension and pull it down. the old extension was built the same time as the house, the ring to the sockets how do I know if they are spurs or part of the RING the one I have looked at has two 2.5mm cables in the back box if I disconnect these two cables then Im making 2 radial curcuits? there are 3 sockets and 2 light fittings. all down stairs power on 1 breaker in cu.

OK. are you able to physically see the cable routs between all the sockets?

Hi mate.
Why is the lighting circuit on with the sockets, no1, and surely in your new extension you are going to run a new ring down and a ring up as well as 2 lighting circuits while you have the oppertunity.

I dont read that as lights on ring main but may be mistaken.

I do mate as his lights and sockets are on 1x breaker on downstairs circuit.

Ah, ok then, they could and should be on a fused spur somewhere then....hopefully

lighting and power separate own fuses in cu. Question is if the sockets are on a ring and you disconect them, then you are making 2 radial curcuits which means the kitchen and all down stairs power will be on 2 radials? just cant get my head round it no Im not a electrian hes coming round on wednesday just could not work out how he would over come this without joining this section back up .

Well thats what he would do if its proved its a ring mate, he will do that by doing some tests on the circuit and the readings he gets after going around all the sockets on that circuit will sure enough determine if they are spurs or indeed a ring main, good luck and happy building, get it done for crimbo eh!
