Hi Guys,

Just gone and looked at replacing a fuse board as the client is having a new shower unit installed that needs a 13amp supply. As the fuse board is a old rewireable was going to replace with a new dual rcd board however after the following I.R test and the following results am now thinking of doing a new rccd board with and 16amp mcb for the shower unit and a 6amp mcb for a new circuit just for the lights so that they are protected in the bath room

Circuit 1 l-n >500.0 mohms,l-e >500mohms, n-e>500mohms
Circuit 2 l-n >132.0mohms,l-e126.7mohms,n-e47.4mohms
Circuit 3 l-n 0.50 mohms, l-e 5.31mohms,n-e 2.72mohms
Circuit 4 l-n 12.06 mohms,l-e 4.17mohms,n-e 14.96mohms
Circuit 5 l-n 0.81mohms,l-e 75.9 mohms,n-e77.9mohms

Have also still got to earth bond the main gas and water as not protection
Did recommend that some of the circuits are rewiredbut client can't afford for this to be done.
Any thoughts please

Many thanks

Pete

hi pete
circ1,2 are ok
3,5 still seem to have load on if you can find it and remove it the l-e and n-e readings will prob improve also
circ 4 l-e is low bit still a pass
i think further investigation would enable you to replace the whole cu with out any problems

Hi If its just the shower and i presume you mean its a pump off the hot and cold not electric shower why not put a rcd spur in ?? and on the cert detail deviations eg no rcd protection.

hi pete dont touch the old exsisting consumer unit, just put in a new consumer unit for the shower room, then you are covered,as you have not worked on the exsisting wiring, but you will still have to do the main bonding to the gas and water mains good luck john

With what looks like only 5 circuits you can probably put a little 5 way garage consumer unit in there if money is tight
