Hi, new to this forum, used others before so i know how things work.
Have been working as an Assistant Site Manager for a large main contractor construction company since i left school at 17 (now 21), after 4 years working in this job, i decided it wasnt for me, and i wanted to work on the tools as an electrician, rather than wearing a shirt and trousers to work.
I have completed a Foundation Degree in Construction & Civil Engineering, and worked on both Commercial and Residential construction, including schools, hospitals, health centres and a complete housing regeneration project in North London. I do not however have any experience working as an electrician, although i do understand a lot about the industry, and am fully competent in reading construction drawings and working on site.
At the moment, i have been looking for an employer for 2 months now, and must of contated over 500 electricians from the local directory via email, many of whom do not reply, and when i do recieve a reply, its always a rejection, because their is no work.
I am enrolled on the JTL apprenticeship scheme, and have passed the initial assesment test, but unless i can find an employer to take me on as an apprentice, or just a labourer, i wont be starting the course in Septmeber.
Finding it very difficult to get a foot in the door, any pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated. Based in Kent, but willing to travel and do have my own transport
