Hi all new member here currently retraining to be an electrician 18 months in so far after being a plasterer since leaving school enjoying the journey 😎
retraining? ok well welcome aboard

Welcome to the forum, what made you want to retrain?

Thanks..
I have been a plasterer since leaving school over 20 years and just had enough of it now the aches and pains are just about bearable but can see that being an issue later in life so wanted out.
And electrical work has always interested me and had that lined up as a career after school but fell into plastering because of an family member had an opening for an apprentice.
Glad I'm in the process of changing tho enjoy my placement days a lot more than plastering.

That's great! I know that feeling of aches and pains only too well and I am not in a trade! I'd be always moaning!

What sort of jobs have you been doing on your placement?

Doing pretty much everything in domestic setting maintenance, new boards, some ev chargers covering all aspects it's domestic I want to be involved in.
Only downside is it's unpaid so it's another cost to get there on top of what I've already paid to put myself through the training at 8500 and then there is the days Ive lost at work to finish early for college and tools, megger etc and also placement loosing 2 days a week earning so it's been a massive outlay but knew it would not be easy or cheap.

I would ideally be looking for a mates job if anyone close to Lanarkshire/Glasgow had something that would let me gain more confidence even after have qualifications think that would be better option that diving in myself.

Yeah I think if your doing any job for long enough it has its issues just a matter of how manageable they are 😂

Yeah this is what everyone tells me 😂 actually plastering after a rewire is one of the worst jobs if it's a full house anyway your chasing your tail from room to room filling them in before it takes up.
But yeah it will be handy I've been nominated to fill in holes after doing certain jobs on placement 🤣 don't mind though it is tidier and quicker the guys tell me but I think the guys just don't like getting there fingers covered in filler 🤔
