I've heard the rumours about price reductions on panels for January but can't seem to nail anyone down on price at the minute. We've no more room for pre 12/12 installations but are trying to plan as best we can for the New Year.

Has anyone heard anything about pricing yet? I've heard 80p/w for Axitech but that's about it.

I've received confirmation of 85p/Watt for CanadianSolar and 75p/Watt for a Chinese panel whose name escapes me at the moment.

Well not as good as they are now but better than I thought they would be. Our margin won't be the same but we're kind of lucky because we've built up a reputation so with a few January offers I think it's feasible.

Ditto. Done some sums and at 85p/Watt I'm happy. The only thing that's bothering me about the future is the linking of the C-rating to the FIT

Been quoted 75pw for Axitech and 85p/w for Suntech from January. Our plan is to reduce the time we spend working on bespoke systems, refine our panel options and go for core prices with a menu of costs for extras such as extra scaffolding, remote monitoring, etc etc

I'm wondering how we get round paying for the EPC or should I say the customer paying for the EPC. How will they know that they achieve a C rating without having an EPC? It's like paying ÂŁ50 for a survey - I just can't see it happening.

The other thing I'm worried about is - I don't have a problem sorting out cavity wall and loft insulation for the customer after installation - but I'm damned if I'm going to give my leads to insulation companies who have moved into solar pv.

Looking at targeting farms as Iv just fitted my first 4 trapezoidal installs and had them done in half the time for slate. Also looking to target recent installs for additional system optimisation.

Ok, so I've got nothing in after the next 3 jobs. Should I be worried? I'm thinking that I don't care until January by the time I've got everything sorted out and had a bit of a break it'll be mid January.

Can't remeber who posted on the forum but legitimately how can we quote when we don't know what the Fit payment will be?

I'd survey it and price it on 21p. It is the best information that you have so what else can you do? Just let the customer know the situation.

We're not doing any quotes until we know the confirmed rate sometime in the New Year. Those customers we've spoken to seem happy enough to wait and I'm looking forward to some free time to spend in the mountains before Christmas. I fully expect a load of "oh sorry, we went with someone else who managed to fit us in before the deadline" come January, to which I will probably respond with an offer to carry out an inspection highlighting where corners have been cut on their installation and a quote to put it right! (I'm joking of course, but as a small, new company we haven't had the volumes that you guys contend with and we have only lost 3 jobs to competitors - one 'cos a competitor could offer black framed panels that the customer prefered when we couldn't get any. Said competitor didn't see the need for a structural survey and I think was significantly more expensive than us. Another 'cos we quoted for a 13 panel system, to avoid serious (constant) shading and to allow adequate spacing of the array from roof edges. A competitor managed to cram 16 up there. One permanently shaded, and the rest running right up to the eaves and verges. The last one was an old slate roof (no felt) and we included a price to apply felt to the relevant elevation. Apparently we were the only company to point this out or indeed look in the loft! We also were the only ones to point out the lack of bonding in the property. He went with someone who told him there was no need to felt the roof, because they wouldn't need to remove any slates.....yeah, I know..... All this is despite explaining the whys and wherefores of everything we tell them and making sure they understand, pointing them to independent information if necessary. I can only put it down to greed. Or they think we're lying. Anyhoo, before this turns into more of a rant, I suspect there may be quite lucrative repair and maintenance work to PV systems in the future!

Oh, and Budgie, you are a star mate - thank you!
