Hi guys,

Thank you so much for the amazing forum.

I've been looking for a simple guide to start trading as a freelancer.
Do you guys know of one?
Any pointers for newbie?

Cheers,
Jay

Sorry for the time it took, there is too much disperse information on the web. Here is what I found out (best sites)

Getting an UTR: https://www.gov.uk/register-for-self-assessment

Managing as a freelancer: https://help.gosimpletax.com/hc/en-gb/articles/202269108-Freelancer-A-Beginners-Guide

Knowing about CIS: https://help.gosimpletax.com/hc/en-gb/articles/202028658-What-is-CIS-about-

Already sent out my UTR request, should get it on time :)

My employer will pay the NICs and all I will need to do is record all my income and expenses (I think i will try that simpletax free service) so I can file my first return come next April (2016).

A bit nervous but it's time to grow up I guess...

have a look at "quickfile" it's a simple system for doing all your invoices and expenses. and it'd free.

You say you will be working in the Netherlands as well as the UK, do you have a licence to conduct electrical work in Holland??

Unless you are, or will be working alongside an electrician that is a licence holder, you won't be able to undertake work as an electrician in Holland, or most other European countries come to that.....
