new sparks

Hi everyone. I'm 28 and I have been a tower crane driver for the last 10 yrs and have had enough of the solitary work. I am very interested in getting into the electricians trade but I am very unsure as to the best way of training as there are so many different courses and trainers available. I want to find an equilibrium between doing the courses as quick as possible but also keeping the costs down. Would I be better doing one course that incorporates all the qualifications needed or do them individually? And would i be better going to an independant training provider or doing it through a college? I have someone who would be willing to employ me while i'm doing the courses and to give me the time off needed to train but due to financial needs i could only do the practical part of learning part time. Thank you in advance for your help

forgive me if i am wrong, but since the new government, I was told you cannot do the course unless you had work placement within the trade

true as far as I know. Won't be able to start course until September anyway? surely better money driving a tower crane? It's cut-throat out there, with far may more sparks than jobs...please put me right someone and encourage me!

How do you respond positively to someone so optimistic about the job, and so keen to learn? It's like when I was unemployed and seduced by the government teaching incentive. I did the course but found myself on the agency books at the end of it competing with a million others for the few jobs that came up.

work under someone for 3-4 years. dont complain if its peanuts... build up as much experience as possible especially testing side as this is what will get you out of sticky situations when things go wrong and your left to sort it out. then go it alone and you can make some nice moneyyyyssss.
