Hi

i have been asked to PAT test some offices. I have done a PAT course a few years back for my previous employer. All i want to know is what do i need if im going to do it by myself rather then for my previous employer? What type of insurance do i actually need?

Depending on your current state of employment / business.
If you are not currently set up as a business then you will need public liability insurance in order to legally do the work.
As you are providing an assessment service then it maybe wise to get professional indemnity insurance so that you are covered in case of problems.
You can go on down from there to cover all sorts of insurances that might be useful, perhaps, but the first one is the only one you need.

need.
The only insurance that is legally required in the UK is motor insurance and employers liability insurance.
There is no legal requirement for you to have public liability or professional indemnity. But, if you give a client wrong advice or you break something of theirs etc and you havnt paid your £300 annual premium, you could have a judge forcing you to pay £100,000's that you more than likely havnt got sitting around.

Get insured, its not worth the hastle.
