Hi guys, I'm new to this site and need some advice. After sub contracting as a sparks for a big company doing apartment block new builds I've now started on my own. I'm a sparks with 17th edition, but sit with the problem of signing off any work I do cause I'm not registered with any competent person scheme's. After reading about joining any of these scheme's I see they require that your business has been running for 12 months. Does this mean that I'll have to go through building control myself every time I need work signing off?

Cheers

napitg and elecsa don't require this. you can do your assessment jobs and notify through your chosen scheme provider after passing assessment

Hi telectrix, if I understand you correctly, I must complete the 2 jobs I'm gonna use as my assessment jobs without notifying anybody then register with NAPIT etc, do the assessment, pass the assesment( hopefully:)) then I will sign off the work thereafter?

Cheers Steve

I know NICEIC AC scheme insist on 12months trading, I'm not sure about the DI scheme.
From the amount of newly qualified short course sparks registering with the NICEIC if the NIC have a 12month requirement I'm not sure they enforce it.

NICEIC is 6 months for AC and 0 months for DI mate. Everyone without 6 months trading must start of as a DI

Thanks for the info...... NICEIC.... have they moved to goal posts or is it's something else I've dreamt up???

Is the ECA still 18months?

I couldnt tell you mate. Just when I looked at NICEIC couple of months back info I got through post said minimum of 6 months to join NICEIC APPROVED CONTRACTOR.

What happens if you don't do house bashing?

Doesn't matter, your still only valid as a DI to the NICEIC. Until you gain 6 months trading. You don't need to be with a scheme for commercial or industrial, only if the premises share a service head with a domestic property...and thats where part p and schemes come in.
