Hi all,

I am after some sensible advice as to my way ahead!

I am about to leave the RAF after too many years to mention (20+) Shhhhhh.

I spent two years in the early 80s working for a local electrician but never finished my time.
I have recently completed a domestic electrical course, followed by the 17th edition regs, part P, health & safety & then went on to complete the 2391 inspect & test, gaining an 83% pass.

I would like to move into the Electrician market but realise my limitations….!
I have a good working knowledge of domestic installations as I have kept my hand in over the years on my own properties etc.

As most of you are timed served could you give me some advice on what level to aim for?

Hi Mick, and welcome.

Guessing you did the course's down in Aldershot?? Going through the same 3 myself and going self employed at the end. Due to finish at Xmas afer 22 years in the Army, already do PAT inspections and like you have been pretty handy round the domestic and field distribution systems. I already have a raft of potential clients, and at the end of the day you have to market yourself in a unique manner without devaluing the trade your in. Nothing worse than being a busy fool........

Hi Graeme,

Yes I did the Aldershot courses, all good stuff, but as you know it's getting into a firm to prove how good, we ex-forces lads can be (without that sounding to big headed).

Just trying to get a feel for hew we are percieved in civvy St....!

Mick
