Hi All ive not long been acredited so i have not got as much experience as some of you so bare ith me!! i have recently been to quote a job where the customer wants a 4kw system ono hes got the roof space , so i understand as its over 16a i need permission from the dno which i have applied for but since been told this could take 9weeks! i contacted my local wholsalers for a system price and he quoted me a canadian 245w x 16 panel system with a fronius 3.6 inverter, the total panels come to 3920kw he said the inverter will only push out 3680. is this right ?? soo this can be installed under g83? even thou the array is 3920kw. Help please!!!

who's the DNO?
If it's SSE then it's ok, they work off the rating of the inverter.

I've copy-pasted UK Power Networks Net Capacity calculation instructions:

"Add the total rating of all of the solar panels. Call this SP_Rating.
• Identify the efficiency of the inverter. Some inverters have charts showing how the efficiency varies with the DC Input Voltage, and other factors, and some just state an 'Average Efficiency'. Call this Inverter_Efficiency.
• Multiply the two figures (i.e. SP_Rating x Inverter_Efficiency). Call this Output_1.
• Compare Output_1 with the maximum rated output of the Inverter. Take the smaller figure. This is the SSEG output which should be reported.

Consider the following worked example:
7 solar panels rated at 235 Watts each, with a Sunny Boy 1200, (rated at 1200 Watts)
7 x 235 = 1645 Watts (SP_Rating)
Inverter Efficiency = 92% (Inverter_Efficiency).
SP_Rating x Inverter_Efficiency = Output_1.
1645 x 92% = 1513.4 Watts (Output_1)
Compare Output_1 (1513.4 Watts) with the rated output of the Sunny Boy 1200 (1200 Watts), and take the smaller figure, which is 1200 Watts."

For info they also use 240V when working out the Amps

Surely you should work off the inverter output in this case which is 16A thus comes under G83.

Thankyou for all your input it was something that i wasnt sure how this worked!!

So for my proposed system it works out as follows..
245w x16 panels = 3920w
inverter eff 97%
3920x97% =3802.4
Inverter rated output 3680

so you would register the job as a 3680w ? im sure last time i registered a job it asked for the amount of panels ??

domB where did you find that inf0? also does anyone know if the sb300 hf if g83 compliant?
