My son's a plumber (sorry..I know) and sent me this picture from a loft today...it's above a shower and comes on with the other bathroom down lights. The hole is sealed with a sheet of glass and mastic....the chap that owns the house advertises his services as a 'handyman'. Apparently the plumbing was bad so goodness knows about the wiring! Looks like it was a replacement for a downlight, judging by the spring clip lying there.

At least the IP rating from below is good, even if you'd have trouble fitting a loft cap over it.
 
That's bloody brilliant! Bet you could get some cheap desk lamps from the poundshop, get some cheap down light base things and save yourself a fortune on IP65 fittings! I'm going to pitch this to the wife! And I'll use wagos instead of connectors, wouldn't want to be rough!
 
I have a feeling this is the work of our Eastern European friends, they certainly have an eye for improvisation. Or a wind up either way 10 out of 10 for effort!
