Hi All,

We are putting together a deal/incentive for customers for the run up to Christmas. With times being tough at the minute, we're thinking of aiming at gifts that one might want for themselves or be able to pass on to another which would help take the edge off the heavy spending on xmas presents. We're thinking along the lines of a small television and/or some sort of gaming device e.g. PSP

Any feedback from forum regulars would be appreciated

A good idea.

If I was the brains behind an operation like this I would think about offering things that are slightly more universal to appeal to more people and give people more insentive to purchase. Things like christmas hampers, cheese collections and stuff like that. Everyone has a couple of people they have to buy for at christmas that they have either no idea what to get them, or just dont really like them anyway.

If you do choose to stick with the idea of small TV's, psp's etc then the option for the purchaser to select the incentive (within price margins of course) would be best to appeal to a bigger audience.

I agree Widdler, we also need to get the best possible deal from our suppliers on the gifts to ensure the deal is cost effective enough to make people want to but it. It will be a pointless exercise buying 200/300 televisions if they're going to cost the same as it would to a Joe Bloggs walking in off the street.

Our ideal scenario is to be giving the gift(s) away absolutely FREE along with products that lots of sparks are using regularly and the prices of those products are still better than our competitors - thats the aim

Like your style Widdler - at the minute i cannot furnish you with a cheeseboard, HOWEVER.....

......if you follow the link below and use the voucher attached, you will recieve 5% off EVERYTHING on our site www.meteorelectrical.co.uk - the prices on our 17th Edition boards are already unbeatable, but with that extra 5%, you can use the money you've saved to pick up your own cheeseboard. Hope this does meets your approval

I think its a good idea to offer free gifts with everyday purchases - I also understand that from a customers point of view you want something that is good for you and here lies the problem as one man's **** is another man's gold. If it was me I would be offering free goods that I'm also selling after all you are in business. So giving them something that A) you are selling, is giving you the opportunity for futures sales. As a guide and not being an expert on your products (yes I will have a good look at your website lol) I would use a car deal model - I took in my car in for a service the other day and was given the next model up as a courtesy car, obviously a higher spec and better car - when I got mt car back I could not stop thinking about how much more room there was in the courtesy car and the finer luxury touches. End game is I know what car I will be buying next and they almost made a sale for what - giving me something for free to use and not using a horrid little corsa or clio (no offence if you own one). So I would be giving away something people would use in there business and that might have them buying that from you again - just a thought

If you want to chuck me a PSP as a trail your more than welcome lol

Like your idea Bushy, we have actually discussed running with some of our own products for basically the same reasons you have pointed out but to be honest we were worried it would seem too 'gimmicky' - we don't believe people are blind to that trend of sales/promotion; ideally we would just like the offer to be completely hassle-free and for it to be clear that there are no catches or hidden terms & conditions. Thanks for the feedback, it is appreciated.

Thanks Bushy, we don't really have a shortage of idea's, we just want to be sure that whatever we go with is applicable and current to what electricians want. We have had all sorts of considerations from donations to charity, to Hair Straighteners (for the lady), to Air Miles - we just want to be sure we choose something that appeals to as many people as we can. We also have to consider putting a vast selection of gifts together and letting the customer choose what they receive

Well I think it's a top idea, really different. Fair do's you guys have great service, something you wouldn't expect from your low prices, and you've sorted me out without any messing about on occasions when things go wrong. No I don't want a job in your PR division.

I like widdler's idea about hampers and that. It would be cool to have like some smelly girly rubbish like a bath set for a small amount, a hamper for a medium amount spent and then your PSP or telly for high rollers! Something like that. Or bottles of booze, everyone likes booze... technically you should be alright licensing-wise cos you ain't selling it. I am actually a licensee so I could vouch for you anyway lol. Anyhow, great idea I like it.

years ago whilst doing my time one of the local small wholesalers gave Tunnocks cake n biscute hampers as he was a "T" total and was against alcohol being used as an incentive We looked forward to his hamper(probably cost less than a bottle of voddy ) more than the usual bottles from other suppliers it was a small gesture but my mum appreciated iut when i took it home

I would of thought in the current economic climate and for ease of and cost of distribution a voucher incentive with a choice of Asda, Tesco, M&S or any other shops vouchers available would be more viable
