Hi I am new to the forum and have found it really useful so far but was wondering if someone could help me out?

I am 21yo Engineering graduate whos poor degree grade is useless. I wish I had gone straight for an apprenticeship out of school which I did seriously consider but no point in crying over the past. I have saved up and am considering doing my C&G 2330 level 2 and 3 with either OLCI or Able skills. I was wondering what is sort of things do employers look for in an Electricians Mate. I would really like to work as I learn but am unsure of the qualifications required or the entry routes. I understand experience is probably the biggest factor but everybody has to start somewhere right? Would I be better off applying for mates jobs post level 2 or would anyone consider taking me on before that. what are the minimum requirements? My experience of electrics is basic. I know a bit about domestic bits and pieces but not a lot. Thanks for any help or advice!
Jon

From what I have been told if you are registered before 01/01/2011 for the course you are fine. the only thing that bothers me is that if I were to do the level 2 and then that were to be deemed incompatible with the new qualification. Unfortunately its not been too clear what is going on which has made life a little more difficult.

yeah im on my lv2 at the moment adn starting my 2nd year which is running through the holidays to fit it in so we can register on the lv3 in january, but unfortunatly even once ive done that i wont now be able to do my nvq liek you would normally in a year or sos time im going to have to go back and do the 2357 still at some point

So is there no point starting the 2330? surely it must be transferrable? I cant believ how little information there is. Im off to see a college on wednesday night for some clarification. OLCI and Able skills seemed to indicate there shouldnt be a problem if I'm registered for the course before jan but no point if I wont be able to do the NVQ at the end. that is so harsh on you though that you are gonna have to go back and do another qualification even though you are half way through.

thats pritty much what we all thought at college when this changed a few months ago as we are all on a night course and had paid up for the first year at the time, im considering doing my lv3 only as im already on the course however if i can find a job with a spark in the mean time i probably wont doit and will just do the 2357 instead, and i am to hoping if i do have to do the 2357 which seams alot simpiler course in the respect of electrical science i can migrate my bits over.

It's the NVQ3 that you need to register before this date people have been quoting on here, as after this date you can't do the NVQ3 as a seperate item it has to be the 2357

thanks for the clarification. Does that mean that there is no point in signing up to the 2330? also what is the difference going to be between the two qualifications. I hear its credit based and that it may not be open to those not enrolled in an apprenticeship scheme but that could be bs?

your right you have to be working with a spark to do the 2357 as they have to come out and inspect your work the 2330 covers all electrical items such as the national gride down tocomponant level ( resistors and capacitors) the new one is aimed at domestic work

hai jharrisberg...keep learning about electrical technology...TRAINING MAKE PERFECT....dont stop because learning process is every day...keep going dude :D the important is we must have a passsion :D
