Good Evening Everyone,
New member here. I will admit right off, I know next to nothing about electrical systems. I was a Electro/Mechanical Designer for 90% of my career, but to be honest, am scared to death of things I can't see.
Anyway, wife and I bought a new home home in Oregon recently, new to us anyway, and it has a large garage/workshop that was a determining factor for me. Appears to have it's own breaker panel with a 200 Amp Main. The wiring in this garage was DEFINITELY not done by a professional.
One thing that has peaked my curiosity, it has 2 breakers, both tandem (connect together) of 30 and 50 amps respectively. This garage also has a 220 outlet installed for a Motorhome connection I believe. One question I have is, what would be the purpose of these 2 breakers? I have switched them on/off but can't find anything that is affected by them. Does one of them possibly control the 220 circuit?
I would love to get the wiring completely straightened out but not sure how to proceed. Perhaps a circuit tester to trace the wiring??
Sorry for sounding crazy, but don't wish to hire a professional to figure this out for me. Nothing against the profession, just can't justify that cost.

By your own admission, you don’t know what to look for. A pro would, or maybe a friendly neighbour with a little more experience.
The 50+30 doesn’t sound right, but I’m UK, and not familiar with US practices. It might be fine.

if you can’t see visually what a circuit does, then I’d be tempted to leave it off until it’s been looked at.

Welcome to the forum and I’m sure that the 50 amp breaker is for the RV hook up and the 30 amp double pole breaker could be HVAC or a piece of equipment
