Hello everyone.

I am currently serving in Royal Engineers (imagine there are a few on here) I am hoping to get some info for the future. I am looking ahead to my career out the army. I currently am working towards the 2394 (one test left to do) and so far have 17th edition and some Course C (design project) which tbh I am not sure if it holds any weight, I've been told it is a recognised qual but don't think C&G do it anymore, I'll be finding out for sure.

I would like in the future to work towards testing and inspecting as for some reason I enjoy it. Is there any other quals I should aim for? (looking at doing 2395 soon enough)

Also can anyone suggest any firms to look into ?

I know I will be coming across as being very newie, but It's info I'll really appreciate as I think about my future career.

Bare in mind the army gives us next to no practical experience which I sense is a shame because we seem to gain a lot in terms of theory knowledge (DC, AC, Cable jointing, Testing Inspecting, 1ph / 3ph systems)

Thanks in advance.

to get anywhere ( except housebashing ) you really need c&g 2365 level 2&3, followed by NVQ. takes 2-3 years min. coupled with practical experience. if you're young enough, it's worthwhile. the 2394/5 are definitely good for test/inspection .

I have a 2330 I think , electrotechnical technology. Seems this is obsolete?

Being 27 I'm not so sure I am still classed as young :)

Would the 2365 and NVQ be a going to do an apprenticeship from scratch scenario?

If you have 2330 level 3 that is a full C&G electricians fundamental qualification. It doesn't matter that this qualification has been superseded by another number or numbers. All other qualifications like the 2394/95 and NVQ3's etc, are basically to be viewed as ''Add-On's''

It is unclear here exactly what qualifications you actually hold at the moment, you don't seem to know yourself, which is a little confusing. If i were you, i'd clear that up first then come back with a clear picture of what qualifications you HAVE gained with the Royal Engineers. Some Armed services electrical C&G's qualification numbers are not exactly the same as those as in civvy street, but can be adjudicated as being equivalent by the C&G Institute.

Oh and inspection and testing can extend way beyond those to BS7671. The 2394/95 is the just the basic stuff that relates more to areas of small installations and final circuits...

Check with your Engineer training officer(s) if the ''C'' design project you refer to is, or based on the C&G design course, i can't remember the number off hand but i'm sure someone here will know.... If it is, that could well be another feather in your hat!! lol!!

Sorry, ...Cap!! lol!
