Hi to all, my first post...
Am currently half way through a combined Pt P, 17th Edit and 2391 or 2 (?) Insp and test course. Really enjoying it as it is a total departure from my day job.
Will i be an electrician when i'm finished...no i won't. I realise that there is much more to learn and much more expirience to gain..
My question is what is the best course for me after i finish at the end of the summer. I am in no rush to go out and make a fool of myself, so some more knowledge is the best for me at the mo.
Great site with loads of very info....
Youre advice is appreciated

Hi wa2009,

I am partway through a similar set up to yourself.
Honestly?
Do the 2330 level 3.
It is a far more recognised course than the DI course.
When you come to the end of the courses you are lined up for it is kind of a dead end, but the theory and the knowledge and the books you have is invaluable and in my opinion a great starting block for the more recognised courses in the industry.

The industry has a tendency to take time to recognise a course, the 2356 took a while for the industry to get used to it. Unfortunately it has now been replaced by the 2357 which is, to my knowledge, a single (but large) course leading to a diploma. It will surely take time for it to be the norm but included in the course are aspects which are fast becoming a must-have qualification for electricians. Fiber optics and photo voltaic are both a part of the new course I believe. So if you've missed the train for the (now) old 2356 (which is an NVQ normally done after 2330 L2 and L3) then have a deep think and consider taking up the 2357. Us old timers (well not that old in my case?!) will have years' experience and you young guns will have all the up-to-date qualifications. Hope this helps.

Thanks for reply.
It is , to someone such as me ( a newcomer) a bit confusing to see the all the various courses that you can take. Some it seems are more benficial than others. It seems that an old course is removed ...only to be replaced by a simialr one , but under a new title!!.
I like the idea of the 2330..being a longer term course with recognised status...but who knows what will happen over the next year.
I'll keep reading the forum and gain a bit of insight that way...
Thanks again
