1st all of your paperwork is checked by the assessor out of which he will pick a minimum of 3 jobs to do site visits. Usually a domestic a PIR and an EIC but assessor decides.

He will go through the paper work with you and ask a variety of questions. This year it is mainly about PIR's and the 17th edition.

He will inspect your test instruements and check calibrations or check box records.

You will then go round the sites were he will check the installation and compare to your paperwork.
Make sure everything is labeled and circuit charts are accurate.

He will then watch you doing some testing on site and compare readings to your paperwork.

Then it's back to base for a debrief were he will summarise the site visits and fill out an assessment report.

Just keep cool & it will be fine.

i am walking into a new job with a different company that do a lot of facility management. so cant show him new jobs or other ones i have done. THink it will be interesting.

Sorry misread your original question.

I had same problem about 6 years ago when i changed jobs.

What the NIC inspector done if i can remember correctly was to assess your ability to fill in the required paperwork especially PIR page 4 and EIC page 3 the tick box pages. He basically asked what all the boxes referred to.
Then he checked all test instruements and calibration / check box records etc.
Then it was some testing so make sure you have a ring circuit and RCD / RCBO available for testing. Remember your safe isolation.
You will then have to fill in a mock test report.

This initial assessment lasts for a period of 6 months to allow you time to get some paper work completd then they will give you the full assessment with site visits etc.

I had my PQS assessment two weeks ago. Was very straight forward and they don't expect miracles. Although we had our full visit 6months ago, he only wanted to see one job.

Bear in mind that if its only a half day visit, and specifically for PQS, then he wont be bothered about seeing all the calibration details etc again, he'll just want to get on with the job.

It was a new build still had no power so was all dead testing, but he discusses with you different points and things really someone who has done 2391/someone who is a PQS should really know.

After the inital meeting of the guy I was nervous, but this visit I thought whats the worst that can happen. The more relaxed, conversational etc the better. They're real people and they're very knowledgeable, and if you dont know dont guess!! I forgot the 101,102,103 etc codes because we dont do much domestic, but on the report he just put "discussed reference methods 101 etc..."

Honest it will be fine.

Have you met that areas assessor before? He will use common sense etc especially if he recognizes you or knows you've been on the tools a while... as long as your not cutting far too many corners.
