Something to get my teeth into when the new year arrives.

Called out to see if I could get it fixed before weekend. Pic is only of the cover, but everything entering the CU is burnt back by about 10 inches. so all needs stripping back and repairing. At leat the fire brigade ripped the ceiling down for me to make access easy :hammer:, LOL

From what was left looked like it all started at the main switch end, and everything that side has melted. The install is less than 4 years old to!
Will have more pics to post once i've done the job.

If that's what they do to the CU, don't think i'd like to sample they're cooking:ack2:

Did a similar job earlier this year. I stunk of smoke for days after, but it earned me near on a grand by the time i had finished. It was an Asian household, and no insurance......the mind boggles.

Cheers.........Howard

Interesting to see there are mains powered smokes off one of MCBs. I'm curious to know whether they were functional - and if they were how the cables burned back so far. Everything burning back sounds like more than loose terminals. 'Nice' to see something like this from time to time - helps to remind me to triple check everything - at least twice!

They probably got fed up with them going off so they switched them off!!! Wouldn't be the first time!!

Nasty.

Is there any talk of blame/claim etc???

Its a rented out house but said this to the landlord. Shes not bothered regards any kind of claim against anyone. Told her to get in touch with here insurance company and see if she can claim.

Shes supposed to be emailing me the test certs for the new build, but i'm not holding my breath

The CU was in a small downstairs WC, so door was shut. Did ask to see if the smokes went of and they said no, so they'll be getting a look at to see if there knackered.
