Have any of you folks managed to get a refund or reduction of the fee that the NICEIC charge for cancelling the annual inspection visit?

Two days before mine last month I managed to slice through my finger with a leatherman and needed five stitches, and was told not to use it for three or four days. I'm right-handed and the cut was to the left. But I was effectively one handed.

So, rescheduled the visit. Today I get the letter telling me that thay've charged me,

ÂŁ290.00 Gobsmacked.

Anyone been successful getting a refund?

Thanks Chaps.

There must be some sort of appeal system, if not, tell them to go forth and multiply and join elecsa.

Try and speak to someone with common sense there and go as high as you can up the chain (good luck).

The NICEIC are scum when it comes to things like this.

I was fined ÂŁ400 from them but it was in their error. On complaining I was informed that their phone system was down and they couldn't obtain the proof of my prior contact to rearrange. Lady told me her manager told her to add the fine to my account and it was up to me to prove I had spoken to them two months earlier.

I told them to 'F' off. My account is still in arrears at ÂŁ800 ish quid and I couldn't care a less. This was the day I switched from an NICEIC ambassador to a guy who will never speak a good word about them again (not without a load of negatives anyway).

The people in the offices of the niceic are a bit jobsworthish, common sense does not come into play with them, the assessors are ok,but elecsa assessor i had was a nice bloke, more and more people are switching over.

I'd write them a polite letter, pointing out the change of appointment was due to an accident, and, thus unplanned, and that NICEIC are being unreasonable enforcing such a charge.

"unreasonable" is the key and that is a fact. Who plans to have an accident these days??

I would go with what Murdock says. If theyre still not happy then say you will be going with elecsa and see if that changes there mind. I paid for my initial application but was then told I couldnt use one of my jobs which originally one of the lads in the call centre said it wouldnt be a problem (long story). Spoke to about 5 different people who messed me about till I finally spoke to an extremely helpful woman. Explained to me that she was going to handle everything personally, not to worry about any fees, they didnt want me going elsewhere and that I could take as long as I wanted finding another job. She even gave me access to the tech department without even being signed up yet. Couldnt praise her enough. Like I say though, had to speak to about 5 different people and only took me seriously when I suggested I would be going to Elecsa instead.

Hope yours works out okay.

Oh and if you look in your application pack, you will see there returns procedure. A ball ache at best by the looks of it.
