Currently looking into regeistering and just wondered who you're with and why. Whats the pro's and con's. How do you decide which one when they all seem to offer the same?

Cheers guys
Rich

if you only want membership to be able to sign off your work under part pee, then go for elecsa or napit. if you are doing work for councils etc. they may insist on niceic ( the dearest one).

I always say NICEIC. Yes its dearer but its the most well known and as such, carries more status with your customer. Im not saying that an nic registration is better, they are all the same, but not in the eyes of people who dont know any better.

I don't think thats bang on you know guys NICEIC quoted me around 520 for membership and napit wanted 570?

End of the day in my area NAPIT are well known now...as much as the NICEIC. So I am told, NAPIT offer a better consultancy than the NICEIC. The NICEIC want to see at least 10 jobs. Napit only want to see one.... In shorter terms its much harder to join the NICEIC.

I'm going with Napit

I don't do a lot of domestic work so I went for niceic as it opens a lot more doors in the commercial/industrial market. If i was aiming for the domestic market for most of my work then they are all no better or worse than each other, apart from possibly that the niceic is better known and sometimes specified by landlords and insurance companies.

i'm going for approved niceic, people think it means your a qualified electrician, like in a lot of installation instructions.is it 2 commercial 2 domestic jobs

I've heard rumours elecsa is easier assessment than niciec
This right?

I'm not sure. I failed my first ELECSA assessment through nerves and stupidity. I couldnt find the relevant pages when asked in the OSG, despite looking in the Index! I then tripped the RCD while doing a Zs test, as I had the meter on the wrong dial position. Just stupid nerves on the day.
Very minor things were highlighted, which led me to think they were pretty strict.
The re-assessment went well, with no notes/observations, with I think, an even more thorough 'grilling' to ensure I had enough knowledge to comply with the regs.

I have heard of people ( a number of times actually) having their annual assessment with NICEIC, being just a quick chat, do a Ze/Zs/RCD test, show me your work, all over in an hour. Maybe it is as they are very good, and quite clearly know their stuff?
Alan.
