You'll need a calibration certificate for your test equipment.
The NIC wants a copy of your insurance cert. The assessor seeing it apparently isn't enough!
Do you work on your own, or do you have employees? If you have 5 or more people wrking for you, you'll need a Health and safety doc.
ope this helps.

Sorry Iceman, but they won't let you. And they won't let you buy signs for the van or anything.
You have to wait for your registration number.
I was very annoyed about this too. But if you phone up and harrass them a bit it comes through sooner. I think it took about 7 days for me, and only two phone calls to the NIC.
Good luck on the assessment. Hopefully you get a guy as nice as i did. It was a walk in the park.
My best advice is don't worry or flap. And remember you can use your OSG and other books to get the answers. He won't expect you to know it all by heart.
hello stedger, ive got my nic eic assesment soon. just wondering what types of questions he asks?

I was told by the nic inspector on my first inspection that even though I had no employees, they still wanted a health & safety policy.
He also said that I could just download one from their web site which I did and that was ok.

Kipfonz : As long as you know what you are doing with your testing i think you will be OK. The questions he asked were about disconnection times, and other stuff that was pretty easy to find in the 17th BS7671. (big red book as i call it)
Just remember to not just blurt out the answers and look in your books first.
One question he did ask was about maximum Zs allowed. And why the numbers in the (big red) and the OSG differ.

It was a few months ago now, but my assessor was more concerned with testing than my book knowledge.

My advice would be make him a cup of tea/coffee, try to find some common ground. Don't kiss up to him, but make sure you come across as a nice guy who is joining the NICEIC only to become a BETTER electrician.

Make sure you have all your paperwork ready for him, and don't stress. My assessor told me he had only ever stopped one guy from working, and it was because he was just so nervous, he was all covered with sweat and his hands were shaking, so the assessor don't want him holding screwdrivers and test leads near the CU.
The assessor is there to help you, not to catch you out.

Good luck, don't stress, and you'll walk it.

hello chaps i received my pack frm the nic today to sign and return does anybody knw how long it normaly takes for assesment once iv signed? and once assesments been completed does the asseser tell ya on the day if you have passed or not? cheers
i was given a date that was 8 weeks from sending pack back  phoned the number on the form and asked if they had any cancellations. they did and the whole process took about 2 weeks start to finish :)
might be worth asking you never know ;)

can anyone tell me if i can do periodic inspections if i only join the nic domestic installer scheme

Sorry i have just checked the web site and i can't do the pir, but can anyone tell me how much it cost's to do this with the nic. I know it's all in with napit. but I think the nic are the more reputable scheme to go with.

If you want to carry out Domestic Periodic Inspections under the Domestric Installer Banner[ using NICEIC Purple Forms} then yes you are correct you have to undergoe a further additional assessment in order to be enrolled on their Domestic Periodic Reporting scheme....this means a further additional fee of about £300. not sure of exact cost but it is published on the NICEIC website. You are limited to Domestic P.I.Rs and you would be better off going for full Approved contractor status ...giving access to the all encompassing Red forms withouit additional fees and assessments for P.I.Rs

Alternatively if your work allows it ,then as DHES-LTD states ;you can simply use any other type of Non-NICEIC forms or even their Non Registered Contractor green forms.

The choice is yours.
