Hello there everyone, this is my first post! Just looking for a little advice.
I have the niceic man coming on wednesday at very short notice-only got the pack on thursday! Not got massive experience with inspection and testing and what's keeping me awake at night is elv lights. If they're SELV rather than just ELV would the transformers/light fittings be labelled as such? Do I test lighting circuits with a mix of ELV lights and regular bc lights the same with the exception of IR testing? And if IR testing do I then test the whole circuit at 250v? Or do I disconnect and test seperately? Sorry to sound like a dunce, but I'm a little worried about getting it wrong in front of the inspector-normally I just knock off the ELV lights and test without. If anyone can clear all this up for me, I'll be extremely grateful-thanks!!

Make a note at cu "circuit --- serving selv lighting"

Yes but your R1+R2 will only be to the input (230v) side of tranny for the selv lighting.

Up to you
Me I disconnect test the LV side of circuit at 500v & then test the selv at 250v.

Turn all the switches of and test 1st with 250v just to make sure they are all open and then with 500v, otherwise you will have to disconnect the primary side from all the transformers (which is not practicle) when you insulation test between L & N. The only leg you will not be testing using this method is the switch line.
Happy days

Yes, thanks. In the end it was quite straightforward as I suppose it should be. Just a look at the paperwork, full sequence of tests on a ring circuit, ze's and pfc, few questions on disconnection times and a chat about regs. Afterwards you look back and wonder why you thought you wouldn't pass, but beforehand you start to question everything you've been doing as if you've being doing it wrong all the time. The tricks of the paranoid mind!!

If you post a question on whether your testing capabilities are up to scratch, then the chances are you will have no problems with assessments
If you are capable enough to question your procedures, then generally the knowledge to be able to that, would mean that you should meet the standards
The people who find it difficult may be the ones without the knowlege to question their capabilities in the first place and are blind to what they may be asked to perform
Thats probably why your fears were not justified

I think you're right there. I also have gas safe, previously corgi reg and have seen some shocking candidates be allowed through there. The biggest non-compliance you can get is a bad cheque! After today I think as long as you don't work live in front of the assessor it's in the bag! I wonder, does anyone know of anyone who's failed one of these assessments? And if so, why? (Sorry, bad grammar)
This post should be slotted in before des56 I think.

The most ignorant people are, the surer they are that they're right! lol

I am not sure that working live would be and immediate fail. If the inspector asks you to carry out a Ze test then you have to remove the consumer unit cover and test from the supply tails. RCD testing is best done at the cu from the load side of the rcd. Surely this constitutes working live or have I misunderstood what this means?

You would have thought they'd have a switch to flick on and off to engage an override. Not on each PIR but an actual light switch
