I am planning to register with NICEIC as a Domestic Installer. One of the assessmernt sites I'll be using will be a CU replacement. I'm not sure about the second assessment site yet but I thought I could replace an old ELCB with a 30ma RCD in a TT installation just down the road from me. Do you think NIC would accept this work for assessment as a minor works installation? If yes then what would I enter into the minor works certificate for the required test results such as R1 + R2 and Zs since the RCD will be fitted on the supply side of the CU?

Good idea. I could put a spur in my house but would the NIC accept 2 piecies of work on the same site?

I would have thought so, 1 major and 1 minor.

Give them a quick call and ask.

Unless someone else knows :)

goto be at different sites. I did cu swop at my own house, and fused spur at my brothers.

you have to have 2 different addresses for major and minor but i did get told that they had to be within half hour of each other hope this helps

So what if I can't persuade any of my friends to have a spur put in within a half hour from my house - if I want to replace the ELCB with an RCD in the house down the road could I just put "N/A" in the boxes for Zs and R1 + R2 etc?

That is on the Minor Works certificate.

yeah you could use that as your minor. Whats connected to the ELCB at the mo?
You will need to record the results for the R1+R2 and Zs.
Have you already booked your assessment? They say 6-8 weeks but i only waited 4. When you book you will get an info pack that tell you what you need to provide. And yeah jobs do need to be quite close to each other. I was told 20 mins approx.

The ELCB is sitting between the meter and a Wlyex re-wirable fusebox.

So which R1 + R2 value do I enter onto the Minor works cert ? There are 6 circuits which will all be covered by the replacement RCD. Same questions for Zs and insulation resistance. Should I take measurments for all circuits and enter the lowest value from all the circuits?

id be interested in what they say about how you isolated the elcb? because breaking the boards fuse seal is illegal and you would have to put in for a reconnection/test notice with them? not sure if this is still the case it always used to be though.
