Im doing a cu change, installing 2 new ccts and some minor alterations to the existing ring in a basement flat. This ring has one double socket which is on a spur but I cant find the connection between ring and spur anywhere. The cable goes down behind the skirting and I suspect it goes into the concrete floor. The cct is old so probably before the days of maintenance free JBs. IR test is fine though.

I am relocating two other sockets on the ring and the plan is to fit a FCU on the spur to feed two more sockets.

Can I sign this off or is it too big a departure from to regs? Do I need to break the floor up?!

Thanks in advance for any help with this.

you've done as best you can. just notre it on the cert. is it possible to fit your extra sockets connected elsewhere on the ring and maintain the ring through the new sockets?

thanks for the reply. the 2 sockets im relocating are staying on the ring but it would be almost impossible to put the spurred skt onto the ring proper. Its location makes it the ideal 'tv corner' supply. its a basement flat with concrete over flagstone floors and a separate flat upstairs so no access to their floorboards, and the ring is on the opposite side of a large room. To top it off the wall there is damp (got stone steps behind it) and the metal back box is pretty rusty so im going to fit suface mount fcu & skts to make it safer. thanks again for the advice

There is a section on the cert for comments. So write a constructive comment about your observations and CYA.

There are so many old installs out there so a nice shiney dual rcd board or rcbo board will make it safer.
