Hi all.

When I do an EICR I always try and determine what is on a circuit even though its not labelled at the consumer unit.

My question is this -

If you had several circuits with no labelling, would you C2 it with further investigation required, or would you determine what is on the circuit, C2 it due to as part of no schedule of circuit?

Regards,

Chris

i'd speak to the client and agree whether further investigation at increased time/cost was acceptable.

I once saw an eicr that had been sold to a customer. It stated that as no circuit identification was evident no testing could take place and therefore the result of the whole eicr was unsatisfactory. I took the board open and identified all circuits within 10 minutes then suggested the customer contact the electrical firm for a refund threatening them with action involving trading standards.

My EICR quote includes time to check the "mapping" of the CU and the building......... so at the very least my EICR will list the circuits to some degree of accuracy.

Not sure how people do EICR's if they have no idea of what is on what circuits!

How are you supposed to know if the circuit is fit for purpose if you don't know what it's supplying, and therefore don't know the loading? How did you get an ELI if you don't know where it goes?

Evening.

I asked the question before I had even started the testing. I have since done the testing and confirmed every circuit and carried out the correct testing.
I asked in preemption that the customer would moan about having to take longer to identify circuits and therefore the costs to be slightly higher as a result. I do not tend to use the further investigation box unless I have breaks in CPC or dubious readings. I have compiled a remedial list and only applied a c3 to the labelling.

Forgive the C2 coding, I was told that a non labelled board didn't conform and in an emergency situation could be potentially dangerous.

Regards,

Chris

I always allow at least 1 day for periodics, point in question is a prime example for why.
I once saw a PIR on the forum which stated one circuit could not be identified and recommended further investigation.
How long does it take to switch of the MCB and confirm the boiler is now off?

If allowing 1 day, how can a price of around ÂŁ20 per circuit be justified? I've got to be honest, 1 day seems more realistic when you consider what's involved in doing the job correctly... but pricing against those who want to complete 2 per day is a nightmare.

Would you share what your price point is for a 1 day EICR?

Let them get on with it. EICR's are pretty boring to do ......

They aren't worth it half the time!

And ÂŁ160 is cheap, ÂŁ20 per hour? Or would you even charge ÂŁ160 if you worked 10-12 hours? ÂŁ200-ÂŁ240 is more realistic I'd say.

Seconds.

It's the ones where you turn off the breaker and nothing goes off. The last EICR I did had one 30A circuit which ended up as a coil of cable in the corner of the loft and another 30A circuit which, I suspect is an old cooker circuit but no visible access to the load end.

As the cable itself has had the cpc cut off at both ends I would enter a C3 as it doesn't offer any protection within the cable if accidentally...
