Hi all, just took a small job on doing some alterations to a kitchen and adding some spot lights. As a separate job I will be installing a new CU.

After a quick check of the exsisting lightig circuit confrimed there was no cpc, I strongly advised the customers that they should, at the very least have a cpc installed, if not lighting circuits rewired, as the current state of the installation could prove fatal under fault condition, as they had some metal switches ect and no RCD protection.

They were not willing to take on the extra expense, or disturbance as the house has just been completly plastered in the last month, but were prepared to pay for some extra plastic switches, pendants and loose their metal fittings.

I have now installed the spot lights in the kitchen off a fuse spur on the kitchen ring, and will be:

1). converting all accessories on said lighting circuits to plastic with nylon screws
2). installing a new dual RCD CU
3). upgrade tails and main bonding
4). stick a warning label on the CU stating the absense of a cpc on the lighting circuits and that no class I equipment can be installed.

i just have a few questions about filling in my installation cert for the CU.

1). i'll obviosly be adding to the comments of existing installation section about the absense of a cpc on the lighting, but can anybody advise me on the right termanology to use?

2). will the schedual of test results just consist of a load of n/a's under the lighting as insulation resistance between the live and neutral is all that can be achieved?

Thanks,

Scott

1. I would word it something like this......

"Existing lighting circuits do not incorporate a CPC. Client advised of this defect. At the time of the installation it was confirmed that no class 1 accessories or luminaires were installed on the affected circuits ,and a warning notice was provided at the distribution board in accordance with the ESC code of practice."

2.Yes.

Spot on, also, here's the link to the ESC guide mentioned by Wirepuller: http://www.esc.org.uk/pdfs/business-and-community/electrical-industry/BPG1v2_web.pdf
