Buzz-light-bulb

Hi all

Just a quick 1 I'm doing an eicr and basically I've come across 2 pendant fittings with a 2 core flex going to them and no CPC problem is that ceiling has been over boarded with timber panels there's an earth at every other fitting, what code would this warrant.

as Tel said, but should also having a warning label at the CU that these fittings should not be replaced with metal fittings as there is no cpc.
If there is no label (I would put a label on) but strictly speaking it would be a C3 for lack of required labelling.

That label is not defined in BS 7671. I believe the ESC invented it.

If you cant confirm/deny their is a 'earth' at every fixture (i.e. the ceiling rose) then I'd be raising a C3 observation to that effect to cover your butt! -- top of my head I cant quote the reg that covers this but there is one out there somewhere in the BGB.

Whilst there is no requirement in the regs for a label I always tend to stick one on the CU to highlight there might not be a earth present. Again a bit of butt covering just incase "where theres a blame theres always a claim"!!

In that case 411.3.1.1 ---- when do the chicks arrive :)

Why raise this as a C3. As pointed out reg 411.3.1.1 states that a lamp holder having no exposed conductive parts and is suspended does not need a cpc. As long as the the ceiling rose has a cpc then the pendant does not need one unless it can not comply with 411.3.1.1.

Most pendants/lights in general have a built in chockblock for cpc this is connected via plastic so does nothing.

As long as its connected at met then no problem

Correct but the OP cant confirm their is a CPC at the 'rose' because the ceiling is overboarded? If you cant confirm/deny the CPC then in my book you need to raise this as a C3 observation regardless of the pendant being 'plastic' and not needing a CPC -- as quite correctly pointed out in the regulation. Someone later on may fit a 'metal' light fitting who isnt 'electrically' trained!

In this litigation age its all about 'butt' covering unfortunately and the more you can cover the better .....
