I am going to fit an extractor fan in the separate toilet. There is no earth to the light fitting in there. (may be an available earted lighting supply inthe loft - not yet checked). I know that their is a ring main cable for the plug circuit within a few foot of the fan location. The fan is 35 watt. If I come off this circuit should I fit a 3 amp fused spur?

If its a standard bathroom fan it will be double insulated and will not require an earth, however your light should!!

The existing light is a simple pendant. As all parts are plastic there is nothing to earth. May be an earth wire that has not been dropped or it could be twin wire and no earth. They did things differently in the early 60's.

Xpelair instructions say 'this appliance must be earthed'.

If I replace the light fitting I will need to supply an earth for a light unit. I am not particularly knowledgeable about wiring.Capable of replacing existing fittings and utilising what is there. If I need to bring in an earth feed can it come from another circuit or must it come from the lighting circuit? I know that other light fittings are earthed but this pendant isn't.

I have a spare triple pole switch that I shall be using for the fan.

No to all. Also would require a means of isolation for PIV - pulling a fuse wouldn't be acceptable. I don't mean to seem disrespectful, but this...
