Hi All
Now I understand that plastic services will not provide a path to earth But am I right is saying that main bonding is still required even if supplementary is not ?

Cheers fese,l this is a new bathroom in an existing, but there is no main bonding anwhere in the house and someone has installed a self containd RCD unit as a mains incomer to cover the protection aspect, I have halted the PIR at the pre inspection stage as this set up concerns me and advised the client accordingly would you agree I have acted correctly

You say there is no main bonding in the house. how do you know this, just from looking at the incoming services or have you also checked at electric meter/consumer(cu) board for returning earth cable. Again just because you can see earth connection at services or at cu doesn't mean that it is connected. best and safest way get a spark to check it out for you.

Or ask the customer to get this done before you do the install, and check the cert / services again before doing any work, hope this helps.

All main bonding connections should be available for inspection and should also be tested for continuity.

Basically, if you cant find it then a new one would be required.

in reply to nervouselk Hi, yep no main bonding it looks like it was never replaced when the new hot water tank was installed no cont from any where back to board and on further enquirey I was told that the guy who reconnected the immersion heater said " dont need bonding thats old fashioned "and cos you have plastic water mains pipe it wont matter any way and trying to explain to the owners about bonding is like trying to convert satan I just wanted assurance that the plastic riser is a red herring as all pipe work is in copper:confused:

Spot on devlin maguire, the cowboy who did the immersion shouldn't be doing work if that is how he does it.
Even if it is a plastic riser it still needs main bonding as close as possible to the mains stop tap.
