Hello all
anybody had this before just been assesed ny Nic everything ok and in order but cos I aint got a check box and log book I have got to send evidence to become compiant within 30 Days (buy one)
Anybody got any ideas of what type I need any help would be great
Does the check box need tested every year

Socket & See do a nice easy to use checkbox for around ÂŁ100 17th edition compliant. They come with a calibration certificate for one year from date of purchase. Also NIC recognise it as compliant.
Hope this helps.;)

Hi piz have a look at the CALCARD on ebay or google it, my niceic inspector was pleased with it and will save you plenty of pennys:D

Hello all got this check box from nic 103.39+vat
the one on the nic website
cant work out why I need one I said that I could just measure a couple of resistors 1ohm 10ohm 100ohm
test the voltage on a dedicated socket at home and rcd ins rest etc
point being never been told I need one
I understand we need to keep a log but why cant I test it myself on a known source

You can piz :D and keep it logged approx once a month!

Sorry piz, but the NIC are well known for 'their rules' and not what are the requirements of the government.

Basically, there is NO REQUIREMENT to have a check box check card etc etc.

All that IS required is an annual traceable calibration check on your meters.

But im afraid if you have joined them, then you have to play by their rules.

Hi jason i too used to have annual calibration for meters but niceic state checks should be made more often, which is common sense as a years a long time, now keep record and they dont seem bothered about annual calibration certs now, saves me even more pennys :D as long as readings stay the same each time they are happy!

Indeed but the OP stated that the NIC wanted a check box.

It also appears that he wasnt allowed to even use a dedicated socket in his own home.

Cheers
J (glad not be NICEIC dependent):D

All the regulating bodies have there little quirks no matter who your with. Like it or not the NICEIC is the most recognised and often you will come across customers who insist on electricians registered with them.
The plus side is it does pull in the work from people and customers that will, and do, go elsewhere if your not registered with them.
Bottom line piz get your check box mate, and rest assured your NICEIC choice will prove a wise one, it does open doors. ;)
Look whats on the side of guys vans and ask the question they will tell you the same. But thats the real world.:D
