Has anyone had problems with non payers? I looked on the government website for small claims which states you can have mediation with the other party, at a cost,Then if that fails and you want to take them to court it is expensive and if you win they still might not pay so basicaally you are throwing money away. Now to me they seem to be sending a message of" we dont want to deal with the problem", My uncle won and sold the debt onto a bailiff and stood there laughing when they towed the blokes car away.I would prefer to be less civilised but I wont be, anyone had this problem?

Yes I have, years ago. Civil law is a joke in this country and it allows people to get away with what is effectivley fraud/robbery whilst hiding behind a company and being completely unnaccountable. Winning a CCJ against someone is worthless if they are determined not to pay.

The best method I have come across to deal with non payers is kneecapping. Do one, wait a week, if still no money, do the other.

Late & non payers are sadly just a way of life in small business. Some you can negotiate 'friendly' terms with, others you have to refer to a 3rd party. In my case, I've just referred one of my accounts on to the Police for fraudulent trading which is probably about as extreme as it can get.

Look up Terrence Higgins solicitors, quite a lot of blokes on here use them just for sending out formal letters.

There's quite a few other threads on this subject if you scratch around with the search tool.

I'll move this thread to the business area for you where it's better suited.

In all honesty the only people I've ever had trouble with are:
A commercial refurb contractor, total crook.
A builder, totaly useless with money.
An electrical contactor, totaly useless with money.
Some estate agents from the middle east.

Ive never had a domestic (homeowner) customer not pay and I've had hundreds.
