Hi

I have a customer with a large house, workshop and pool. He is wanting to add a heat exchanger to his pool house and get rid of his oil boiler.

He has the following setup

40amp RCBO from main board - 6mm T/E to Dis Board 1

Dis Board 1 has 32amp (4mm) to Dis Board 2 (pool house)

Dis Board 2 has 16amp, 16amp, 6amp, 6amp

The issue is he has been told by his supplier of the heat exchanger that he needs to have an over current protection breaker of 40amps Type C (Hi start up current)

Can anyone give me any advice on how to get the customer what he needs? thanks

You're probably going to need a larger supply directly to the poolhouse from the Main board. What are the distances involved. Do you know the exact start and run current figures of the heat pump?

Edit. The heat pump would be sized according to the size and type of pool. Do you know which model has been specified?

I was going to but a 50 RCBO on the main board and upgrade the cable to 10mm and then upgrade the 32 to a 45mcb and run 10/6mm to the pool house.

The running power is 27 amps and can spike on startup to 50+ amp!

I know but as with most domestic properties it's only single phase! I'm a bit stumped as to the best way forward. Thanks for the help thus far, if you have any other suggestions I'd be glad to here them.
