Hi there i've been asked to put an eic to a builders single storey extension. He needs a new fuseboard and everything else appears fine, the extension has had planning permission from their local council, my question is can i fit the board and issue an eic without notifying it, im not registered to any body ie nic, napit etc, this would be a cash in hand job as it were.
So is this possable, or am i wrong to even consider doing this.........advice please;);)

Anyone care to advise...........................................

What about building reg's for the extension or a building notice was that submitted at the same time, because some Local Authority Building Control are happy for a 17th Edition 2391 Electrician to Certify the work.

I was under the impression planning was completely to do with building control? What is planning permission then? What is the point of it?

And what do you mean 'if regs are submitted'? Are you saying I don't need to bother renewing my scheme membership in a few months???? Would love to get around notification and all that jazz.

Planning, controls development side of things, ie appearance of buildings and a lot of other things. Building control look after ie the structural side of things besides lot of other things.

Ive plenty of dealings with both, when I was in construction.

Basically if someone puts in building regs for a new build and specifies all work to meet BS7671, the building control may accept what I stated earlier.

Ive known of building control to accept certificates with charging for a notice.

in my experience when its time for the builder to sign a new job off the inspector wants to see the certs, if they see nic or elecsa etc on the certs they dont bat an eyelid, but sometimes if you get an ---- inspector they might request one of their own contractors to have a ganders at your expence
