Hi all, Im just starting my 2391 testing and inspection course, and often come accross the terms notifyable and non....What deos this mean ?

If the work is to be notified, then who should be? the NIC/NAPIT ? council ? both ??

well confused...any explanations would be much appreicated :-)

some work you do in domestics, e.g. CU change, new circuits, anything in bathrooms. is notifiable to you loacal council building control. if you are a member of a scheme e.g. nic , elecsa, napit. you nitify them and they notify building control for you. it's called part pee.

ah right ok, but if the property is not owned by the council ? ...or is tha a daft q ? lol

ye4s it is a daft q. all domestic properties fall foul of part p. from a tenement slum to stately home.

HI so what certificate would you give to install a fan and isolator off an existing circuit? is there a part p cert? or would you give an nic domestic installers cert?if you was registered with them.
cheers

if it's on an existing circuit, MWC. notifiable if, as it looks from your post, it's in a bathroom. note that if in a bathroom, circuit must be RCD protected

you notify NIC or whoever online. cost about £2 a job with elecsa or napit. you give cert. to client and keep copy for yourself. you do not send certs. away.

Dont worry about notifiable and non notifiable on the 2391, its has got nowt to do with it, and wont get a mention. What will get mentioned is Special locations. There is a difference between Part P special locations and BS7671 Special locations, so make sure you know the BS7671 one's, the Part P ones are irrelevant for this course although some of them are the same.

Cheers.......Howard

if you complete any notifiable work in a dwelling it needs to be notified to labc and they come and sign it off at cost to you. OR if you join a scheme like napit, niceic or elecsa you can self certify the work and issue the certificate to the owner/client who requested the work. then your scheme will notify labc on your behalf. as a guide, any new installation or circuit requires an eic (electrical installation certificate). any addition or alteration to an existing circuit requires a mwc (minor works certificate).

If you are not registered with a Part P scheme but are qualified to complete the BS7671 certificates (eg you have C&G 2391) you have to notify LABC before and after notifiable work but can certify it yourself. You then send a copy of the certificate(s) to LABC who will then take it into account when deciding if further action (if any) is required to ensure that the installation is safe and complies with the relevent regs.
Thats according to Brian Scaddan anyway, and I'm hoping it is the case as it is probably how I'm going to start off, as you can't seem to register with any scheme without at least 12 months work behind you!!!!

think you'll find with napit and elecsa, you don't need 12 months. just 1 major and 1 minor job for assessment.

Ahhh thanks telectrix, I'll look into them! As I've said in another post I've had over 20 years as an industrial/commercial electrician so didn't have to bother with part P. I'm now looking into becoming self employed. I have 2391 but have to update from 16th to 17 ed ( I'm starting that evening course on Wednesday). Once all the insurance etc is in place I'm hoping I'm good to go :-)
