Hi,

I have a three core and earth cable going from my hall switch to an intermediate switch on my landing that then continues to a 3rd and final switch on the landing. There is a twin and earth cable feeding the landing switch from the CCU and there is a twin and earth cable going to the landing light so I can control it downstairs and upstairs on the two switches.

My question is, can I change the downstairs switch from a one gang to a two gang switch, take a twin and earth from that hall switch to a newly installed light and be able to switch it on from downstairs and upstairs without having to run an extra cable with an extra core? The house is finished so I am afraid this is not possible.

Any advice would be great!

Ah, so it I need to run that extra cable then? If there's no legal way around it then then I guess i'll have to leave it or get an electrician in

Yes best to get an electrician as they will be able to Inspect and test the work and complete a relevent certificate as they will also have calibrated test equipment and be able to test the circuit to see if its safe

were is the newly installed light being installed is it a external light or in the hall ??
