:( Simple question really, how does someone get it ? I know you need to be sponsored, with 5years worth of checkable work history, but my problem is there. I had a gaffer that didn't pay me for over two months, then we fell out, lack of wages being one of the reasons, so for that two month period i paid no tax, wasn't claiming the dole so no record of me anywhere. Looks dodgy enough to me, let alone someone looking at giving me clearance ! How do i get round this problem without the anti terrorist branch knocking at my door ! ?

In this day and age you need to be checked out and that where the problems begin. So what do they check well Police/emp;oyment/schools attended/credit checks yep if you defaulted on a loan then you are a risk.

Also depending the profile of your position your family gets checked out so if your brother was a bit of a lad as they say this can go against you.

I work for a facilities company in the nuclear industry, after we have interviewed someone and decide to employ them they have to fill in a basic clearance form (BC clearance) and supply three forms of ID which one must be photographic (if they are utility bills then they cannot be older than 3 months) but it is 3 years checkable work history (companies must still be contactable) the form is then sent away to be checked which can take up to 3 months.

If you have been unemployed and have signed on the dole then you have no problem as they will check with the dole as this is correct. If you have any court convictions even including speeding you need to declare them as when then check and find you have and not declared them then you won't get clearance.

If you need the next level of clearance (SC clearance) you still have to go through the BC checks then fill in another form giving details of your partner and family who are then also checked

The thing is Ian, your company only asks for three years, i've gone to get my clearance twice now, even got the Disclosure Scotland sorted, but both these companies wanted five years worth of history, and as i said about the fella i fell out with, he'd just deny all knowledge of me for that period of two months ! So no dole, nor working at the time, so for all the authorities know i could've easily been abroard at one of those camps ! ! Is there any way i explain that situation to parties concerned without it sounding too suspicious at all ?

God help us with idiots like him running round:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Your DV will have been cancelled after 1 year starting from the time you left the services, the 5 to 7 years is conditional on Line Managent annual review, in cases like this you effectivly have no clearance at all.

Sorry
