This NVQ just keeps getting more and more frustrating. I've just found out that we are now expected to document 20% of our working hours as off the job training. This is part of our portfolio. We have not been told this before, we have all finished all the units and we're told that we would be preparing for AM2 assessment in the new year. However, now they are saying they cannot book anyone in on the AM2 as they need clarification on what the AM2 centres require in relation to this 20% off the job training.

It doesn't sound much but we will have to document almost 800 hours of off the job training (the college don't actually know how many hours we need to document)

There is a massive list of things that can be documented as off the job training (including spending time on forums!) However, we have to document everything with a description, hours, what was learnt.

I'm feeling very frustrated. I'm 36 and I've passed every test and met every deadline they have set. I don't need this course dragging out any longer than it has too.

Is this the same course that you mentioned the tutor that was asking for your bank details?
Surely off the job training is all college plus home study time? Surely the college should clarify?

Yes. Same place.

Yeh college and home study can be used. The college don't know any specifics. Basically been told, you have document these hours but we don't know how many you need or when you can take the AM2.

Oh and now they have said they want to move our site portfolio over to a digital format rather than the paper one we have half done already that they insisted on us doing.

I understand it's a brand new qualification (5357) but changes like this should be rolled out for the next years learner's.

Sounds like someone at the college isn’t doing their job properly. They are the ones who should be telling you exactly what is required and in what format. If I was in your position after paying good money for a course I’d be going up the managment chain to get answers. It’s the sort of thing I’d expect from a badly set up private Electrical Trainee course. Re the AM2 qualification, who is the examining body that awards the qualification? Good luck :)

So just had an update.

We are on the 5357 course. We are the first to undertake this new qualification. Changes and problems have now started because it has come to light there is a new AM2 assessment. It's now called AM2C. The college do not know what will be involved in this new version of the AM2 and also don't know what the entry requirements.

So as it stands we are just going to be waiting until this information comes to light.

Wouldn’t worry then. Sounds like you are guinea pigs so they’ll get you through one way or another ;)
