Hi, I am fairly new to the forum, but have been reading quite a bit. I have just completed my 2330 level 3 and was advised to my NVQ 3.
I recieved the file for my NVQ 3 this week and have just sat down to have a little look through to see what I need. I was shocked at the amount of information required!

As I am putting my self through college (I have been working in the industry about 6 months - commercial) the cost of the NVQ 3 were I attend is ÂŁ800. I have already laid out ÂŁ2200 for level 2 & 3 and am looking to do my 17th edition next and then after a year or so of good experience my 2391.

I am begging to wonder is it woth getting the NVQ 3, do i realy need it?

Just wondered how many people have the NVQ 3 and do you think it is realy worth it?

Please reply, i have done a search and have not really found much in help so you replys and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Also does anyone know were i can get any help / downloads etc they may help me with the completion of all the paperwork if i do decide to go ahead with it.

Again thanks.

The C&G 2330 course will not result in an NVQ qualification, however, the City & Guilds 2330 is an industry recognised qualification and will cover the 'under-pinning knowledge' part of the NVQ. To complete the NVQ you will need to be assessed at your workplace and build up a portfolio of evidence.Just depends how far you want to go mate.Do your 17th and then wait a while and do the 239-10.That should be plenty mate and will save you ÂŁ800 in the long run.Hope the advice helps.:DAnd welcome to the forum too.

Yeah i see were your coming from Mac, thats what i was thinking of doing, but then someone put doubt in my mind saying i should do my NVQ whilst I can.
Thanks for your response.

Thanks also to Mr Mark Sparks, i understand what your saying also, but there doesn't appear to be many JIB reg firms by mine, most sparks I talk to work for no JIB firms, and many are on better rates. The firm i currently work for is non JIB.

I hope to start my own firm one day, so for that i wouldn't need my NVQ, i suppose its all down to personal preference!

Hmmmm, the choices we have to make, atleast i can choose which way I go, am lucky to have that.

Thanks again for the advice guys, really appreciated!;)

I did a JIB Registered Apprenticeship, but have never worked for a JIB firm. That said, the sensible thing to do is to complete the NVQ and register with the JIB. It's a no-brainer not to do it.

NVQ 3 is the modern equivalent of "Time served apprenticeship"

You need either NVQ3 or equivalent to truly call yourself a FULLY QUALIFIED ELECTRCIAN

The NVQ portfolio is the evidence that you can COMPETENTLY complete a wide range of electrical installation work in a work environment

You should do your NVQ3 as it is a part of the requirements to be an electrician as recommended by the IEE (IET) and the JIB. Without the NVQ3 you cannot obtain a JIB card which proves you are a competant electrician and required for most jobs in electrical contracting. There is no need to seek help as it is based on what you do in your job (performance evidence) and a few knowledge questions.
