Hello

Im going to sign up for the 2357 NVQ in the new year, i thought to speed up the time it takes to comlete i would start to compile my portfolio of work now, could someone give me advice what i should be doing regarding type of pictures to take and what info to record regarding the work.

Any advice on this would be much appreciated.

Thanks Ricky

I recently completed mine, take pictures of you preparing to install e.g measuring and marking, installing, fault finding is a hard one sometimes but that's a unit, inspection & testing, including test certificates and photos of carrying out dead tests and live tests, you have to get different installation methods such as making off SWA. Cable tray and trunking installations, if you want il forward on some of my stuff if it's any help, get as much manufacturers guides as you can because they do come in handy when you are gathering evidence, safe isolation procedure is classed as a piece of evidence and can be used on most units just for your info.

Just wondering if you could clarify on the types of cable to be used. is it compulsary to use all of the cables listed or just a couple of them?

Have a look at your assessment route summaries. Every unit that you have in your NVQ will have these. If you look at each sub heading, it will say "Assess ALL by work performed", so in this case you have to do all of these items somewhere in your write ups, photos or other evidence you can collect.

Some assessment route summaries will say "Assess TWO by work performed" or 3 or 4 and so on, the same thing applies, but you only need to do 2 of however many choices you are given. So if the assessment route summary says TWO, and you have the option of say 6 types of cable, then you only need to include 2 of those types of cable in your evidence of work performed to complete that unit.
All this should be explained to you when you start your NVQ.

You need to look through your portfolio, unit by unit, to see what you need to do to meet the requirements, then get onto your training provider and get the bloody Assessor to sort you out.

Cheers............Howard

You could try using your mobile phone to photograph various tasks that you complete.
Usually some where between 3-6 photos could give a broad indication of what is going on.

Alternatively, try using the video to record installation activity, you could even explain what you are doing as you go.

Eventually you will have ample evidence to include within your NVQ portfolio/ logbook.

If you store the evidence unitil you have finished the qualification, then, if you have an excess at the end you can delete it . This may prevent waiting around for months for the right job to materialise.

I wouldn't recommend posting the film on You Tube though!!!
